If you are looking for a characterful and colourful hotel to stay in during your time in Santa Fe, then look no further. This fabulous 'inn' is much more than an 'inn'! Part of Relais & Chateaux, this haven of peace is located in the historic Barrio de Analco area of Santa Fe, nestled on a quiet side street near the Santa Fe River.
The concept of the hotel is to evoke the five senses, based on the Eastern philosophy that we are graced with five senses to experience the wonders of the world. The decor is highly colourful and patterned, with many textiles, furniture and furnishings being handmade giving a very homely feel to it all. The owners have worked with artisans in Central Asia to bring together local south-western style with that of the countries along the Silk Road and everywhere you look is rich with antiques, exquisite fabrics, exotic carpets and architectural elements to stimulate the senses.
Nearly all rooms feature king size beds and restful sitting areas. The bathrooms are also highly unusual with the walls being adorned by hand laid tile mosaics all around and amenities made from the local flora. Bathtubs are found in every room for a relaxing soak as well as separate showers. All have wood-burning Kiva fireplaces; some have private balconies. The Premium One-Bedroom suites are one of the most requested categories as they are located on both sides of the property and all open onto courtyards or patios.
The Luminaria Villa is a beautiful large 2 bedroom villa spread across 2,000 sq ft. The residence boasts five wood burning fireplaces (inside and out), patios and balconies facing south and north,
hand painted Tibetan ceilings, 18th Century carved wood and the bathrooms are adorned with mosaic tiles from the owning family's personal collection. Each Master Suite has its own floor and features plush king beds, large closets, and Kiva fireplaces. There is also a chef's kitchen for in house dining.
Breakfast can be taken in the delightful courtyard shaded by trees, the dining room or in your suite, as you wish. Delicious homemade and artisan products are on offer, with a local spicy flavour should you want a morning kick! For dinner, there are many restaurants in Santa Fe, well over 100 to be precise and of a very high standard, including some with award winning chefs, too! Conveniently, the restaurant and wine bar next door to the inn offer room service to the hotel residents during operational hours and guests can charge meals to their hotel account when dining there.
The Spa is a delightful retreat. Start in the Relaxation Lounge with its heavenly sky light, Kiva fireplace and hand-tiled fountain. When the time comes for your treatment you will head to one of five rooms adorned with a mixture of fireplaces, fountains, skylights, crystals or the private aromatic steam room for two. Spa treatments are also available in your room or suite. Combining the ancient Indian Ayurvedic system of longevity, rejuvenation and health, soothing oil infusions of flowers and herbs, rare plant extracts and conscious touch are used to create an exceptional spa experience. There is also a fitness centre and personal trainers are available on request.
This is a wonderful place to stay and encapsulates the essence of how 'different' Santa Fe is.
The deep south of the United States is home to New Mexico, the fifth largest state in the country in terms of total area. Claimed by Spain and joining Mexico in 1821, then ceded to the United States in 1848 led to tensions between the different peoples in this region and this has largely shaped the culture of today.
As part of the 'southwest', New Mexico displays characteristics of the “Old West” traditions of cattle drives, cowboys and historic clashes between pioneers and Native Americans. The terrain throughout the state is varied from arid plains, where even cacti struggle to survive, to rugged mountains in the north, rich in pine forests, meadows and fish-laden mountain streams.
The state capital is Santa Fe but around two fifths of the state's population live in and around Alberquerque.
Two of New Mexico’s most unique physical features are in the south; the caverns near Carlsbad, which are amongst the most fascinating natural rock formations in the world, and the extensive gypsum sand dunes at White Sands National Monument, formed by wind and water erosion.
New Mexico has become a haven for artists and outdoor enthusiasts alike and is a fabulous inclusion for a holiday, or a road trip in particular, through the USA.
The Five Graces is just two blocks away from the Plaza and the Palace of the Governors, right in the heart of the city. The Inn is adjacent to the Santa Fe Playhouse and directly across Old Santa Fe Trail from the oldest church in the United States, the San Miguel Mission.
The cultural, historic and retail centres of Santa Fe are just blocks from the Inn, as is Canyon Road, a lively thoroughfare of galleries, shops and restaurants.
Within the city limits are some excellent museums - the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, the New Mexico History Museum and the Museum of International Folk Art.
