Andermatt is the largest of three villages in the Urseren Valley the canton of Uri and lies at the heart of Switzerlands Apline passes. Considered to be one of the Swiss Alps’ best hidden gems, it is still a picturesque, charming village that has managed to retain its traditional Swiss character despite the many modern developments taking place. You can expect uncrowded streets, perfect for casual strolling, gorgeous chalet architecture throughout the town, a superb collection of bars, cafés and restaurants and international clientele. From Zurich and Lugano you can reach Andermatt by car in a short 1 hr 30 min drive.
Known as one of the most snow-sure ski resorts in Switzerland there are two key ski areas in Andermatt that are open in the winter season. Located on the north-east side of Andermatt is the mountain called Nätschen and on the southern side the mountain Gemsstock. Here, the diverse skiing areas of the Skiarena Andermatt-Sedrun all offer a healthy mix with varying degrees of altitude and levels of difficulty. Freeriders and lovers of steep-slope descents fall for the Gemsstock, while recreational skiers and families find themselves in their element at the Nätschen and Sedrun resorts.
Andermatt is the perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, whatever the time of year.
