Sarara Treehouses is located up in the forest within the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy at the bottom of the highest peak, Warges. An area that lies within the Mathews Mountains and stretches out over 850,000 acres of Northern Kenya.

Home to the proud Samburu tribe of nomadic pastoralists, who have great respect and tolerance for the wildlife they peacefully live amongst. During the poaching crisis in the 70's and 80's the Mathews Mountains were a war torn area and by 1985 there were no elephants left. But thanks to the immense conservation efforts there are now several thousand elephants living and breeding happily in the Mathews Range as well as a variety of other wildlife.

Sarara Treehouses has 6 individual luxurious bedrooms and 1 family unit which can sleep 4. Tents are spacious with high ceilings, plenty of cupboard space, electric lighting and 24 hour hot and cold running water.

The camp is situated up on a hill above the forest and overlooks the beauty and breath-taking scenery of the mountain range. In the forest valley

below the main area you find a walkway high up in the trees that leads you to your room which is hidden amongst the Mathews forest.

Each room is elevated up in the tree tops (as much as 30ft) and is completely immersed by the natural sounds and sights of the forest, with a different view from each room you have a unique stay at the camp. There are additional star beds for each room so you have the opportunity to sleep out under the magnificent stars above.

In the forest there are an abundance of animals, including elephants, buffalo and leopard and many more animals walk underneath the rooms and walkways which provides a spectacular view from above. Every room has a private en-suite bathroom and an open sided shower with view. There is an infinity swimming pool that overlooks a waterhole at the main camp.

An exceptional safari experience is offered with sightings of numerous elephants, giraffe and wild dogs as well as an insight into the diverse culture of the Samburu people.

Region

Meru lies strategically on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya, with spectacular views of the mountain and Nyambene Hills, with the Kathita River flowing gently through. The town is a cultural and historical hub, with the Meru Museum being the main attraction, preserving various artefacts of the local people. Meru is the launch-pad for Samburu National Reserve, North Kenya’s most popular park.

The landscape of the reserve is a mixture of acacia, riverine forest, thorn trees and grassland vegetation, providing home to several large mammals such as lions, buffalos and hippos, as well as over 350 bird species.

Samburu's dominant feature is the Ewaso N’giro River, which slices through the middle of the otherwise bone-dry terrain. The river provides water for the parks various inhabitants; large numbers of elephants, giraffes and leopards gather along the riverbanks, whilst crocodiles swim downstream.

The diverse Kenyan landscape set to the backdrop of the Koitogor and Ololokwe mountains is truly magnificent.
