A privately owned property the Royal Zambezi Lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, bordering the Lower Zambezi National Park (a 10 minute drive).
Sited at one of the rivers broadest points with over three kilometers of river frontage and stretching over 200 hectares, Royal’s prime location enjoys outstanding bird and wildlife and the scenic mountain backdrop of the valley escarpment.
There are 15 tented rooms and suites that include a family unit and three Presidential Suites. All stand-alone and spacious, the large green canvas tents under thatch roofs are positioned for maximum views and complete privacy. All tents are impeccably furnished with a contemporary style, comfort and muted bush colours.
With size and en-suite facilities the differentiating factors, tents and suites include king size beds, comfortable sofas in front of roaring open fires and airy verandahs; mosquito nets, fans and hairdryers (on request).
The central building with its lofty thatch roofs and open-plan comprises of a reception, dining room with fireplace and elegant lounge with comfortable sofas. This is surrounded by a wide shady deck with a copper roof for al fresco dining or afternoon tea. Timber decks extend over the flood plain, there is an evening campfire and a terrace overlooking a narrow grassy flood plain.
The Royal Zambezi Bush Spa includes two treatment rooms, a steam room, Jacuzzi and refreshing plunge pool. The location of the Royal Zambezi Lodge was chosen for the opportunities for guests to experience a wide variety of activities. These include guided game drives, night drives, walking safaris, sunset river cruises, fishing, fly-fishing and a professionally guided canoeing trip. This is a relaxing way to explore the channels and true beauty of the river and allows guests to get really close to the herds of elephant, buffalo or hippos that line the river banks.
Over 4,000 square kilometers of African wilderness, along the North Western bank of the Zambezi river is where you'll find the Lower Zambezi National Park. Founded in 1983 it is newer than most of the other National Parks, however is perfect for spotting its wildlife up close.
Best experienced on either a safari Jeep, safari boat or canoe, your chances of having front row seats to witness elephants, monkeys, buffalo, lion and the incredible fish eagle, can be higher than that of the other, larger parks.
For an up close and personal safari, Lower Zambezi is the place to visit.
