Rascal Voyages have set out to be different from other charter boats. Their approach is fresh, fun and exciting.

Rascal is a meticulously hand-crafted 30-metre ironwood and teak yacht designed especially for cruising the Indonesian archipelago. Built by the region’s most reputable Phinisi shipbuilder, the traditional ‘phinisi’ hull architecture has been reinvented and fitted with all of the modern conveniences to create an innovative and luxurious onboard experience.

Each voyage aboard Rascal is unique and custom-designed to the guests’ preferences. Each journey can be as action packed or relaxed as guests wish.

The boat has two main destinations for voyages: March - November is Komodo National Park, Flores. October - April is in Raja Ampat. Additional locations (available on special request, subject to relocation fees): Alor, Bali, Cenderawasih Bay, Lombok, Moyo, Sumbawa, Sumba, Java.

From first-hand encounters with Komodo dragons to explorations of the stunning national parks of the Flores Sea and Raja Ampat and snorkelling alongside the manta rays and whale sharks, guests of Rascal will experience the spontaneous warmth of Indonesian culture as part of an off-the-grid luxurious adventure.

The Rascal Team has also established a partnership with Conservation International to help raise funds to support the marine biology of Raja Ampat, Indonesia - the epicentre of marine biodiversity. Through research and development initiatives which survey the behaviours of the magnificent Manta rays, Rascal works to raise awareness for the protected species and the bio-diverse marine environments they inhabit.

With service akin to a five-star hotel (with a 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio) and the feel of a floating villa, set against the backdrop of the raw beauty of the East Indonesian archipelago, Rascal is the ultimate in adventure combined with supreme comfort.

Each of the five unique en-suite, above-deck, air-conditioned cabins offer spacious 2.2m ceiling heights and hand-crafted interiors designed by the renowned Charles Orchard of iBal Designs. The well-appointed cabins come equipped with flat screen TVs, Sonos music systems and universal electric sockets. Spacious en-suite bathrooms with tailor-made fittings and abundant hot water ensure there is no compromise on comfort or space.

Four spacious decks and a vast infinity roof deck provide plentiful options for dining, relaxing, sunbathing or dolphin and whale spotting.

During your voyage you will have at your disposal: full scuba diving equipment and an onboard PADI dive instructor, snorkelling equipment, tandem sea kayaks, stand up paddle boards, inflatable tow-able biscuit, water skis, wake-board, surfboard, fishing equipment - line and bottom, 5.5m and 4m rigid inflatable boat, cinema with selection of 1,000+ movies and a selection of board and card games.

As well as the above-mentioned activities your days can be spent as follows: daytime beach set up and BBQ beach dinners, nautical themed activities such as knot tying and navigation class with the captain, trekking including bird of paradise treks and waterfall and volcano trekking, cave visits, bat viewing, cooking classes with the onboard private chef, massage, roof deck yoga, village and market tours and Komodo dragon expeditions (in Komodo).

Region

Vast areas of diverse wilderness, a wonderful climate year round and a rich cultural heritage are just a few of the reasons why Indonesia is one of the most fascinating countries you will ever explore.

Situated between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, it is the world's largest island country, with more than thirteen thousand islands spanning over Southeast Asia and Oceania. This incredible stretch of islands gives rise to a multitude of landscapes supporting a high level of biodiversity. Colossal mountains and volcanoes, dense woodlands and immaculate white-sand beaches lined by coral reefs are always nearby, whichever island you decide to visit.

Indonesia has eight UNESCO world heritage sites, four of which are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the islands, such as Komodo National Park. Home to a huge variety of flora and fauna, including marine turtles, orchids and of course the Komodo dragon, this national park is a fabulous area to explore. Raja Ampat is on the tentative list for UNESCO and will no doubt be recognised very soon for the extraordinary natural beauty and importance for marine biodiversity.

Four of the other sites are dedicated to Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, such as the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province, which consists of five rice terraces and their water temples, reflecting the concept of Tri Hita Karana, bring together the realms of the spirit, the human world and nature. Borobodur and Prambanan Temples found on the island of Java are are a sight to behold, however can get rather busy with visitors in the most popular times. To enjoy the spiritual atmosphere without so many people why not venture off to explore lesser-known temples in the local area?

From traditional war dances and megalithic sculptures to flavourful, vibrant cuisine; from mountainous terrain to serene coastlines, Indonesia boast a plethora of exciting opportunities for those who visit.

Weather conditions in most of Indonesia can be split into two; the wet season from November to April and the dry season from May to October. Although many people prefer long sunny days during the dry season, the wet season may still be enjoyed and is becoming evermore popular as temperatures remain high and rainfall comes generally in the form of intense tropical downpours, an exhilarating experience, and tends to only last for a couple of hours, so needn’t spoil your trip. Inland regions on higher ground on any of the islands, will naturally be a few degrees cooler. If possible avoid visiting the most popular places in July and August as they will certainly be at their peak in terms of numbers of visitors. May, June and September are an excellent choice for most of the country.
Heading eastwards, Raja Ampat National Park has a different pattern. Although possible to visit year-round technically, most boat charters run through the 'winter' months which is seen as the best time to be there for weather conditions as well as water clarity.
