Similar in concept to all the Vik properties, Playa Vik is a work of art externally which transcends through to every object and image inside the common spaces and bedrooms.
Designed by the owners Alex and Carrie Vik in collorboration with Uruguayan architect, Carlos Ott.
The hotel is yards away from the beach and interiors are designed to make the most of the light and ocean scenes thoughout the season.
The emphasis being one of an outside beach chic lifestyle which is enhanced by a wonderful outside fire pit surrounded by cushioned seating, BBQ and 14 foot dining table for sociable al fresco dining and savouring the Vik wine cellar.
There are six individual casitas with 2 or 3 bedrooms and individual suites which are in the sculpture building. Rooms are minimalist and all individually designed with bold works of art and quirky modernist pieces accompanied by shabby chic reclaimed vintage furniture.
The pool is a a stunning design masterpiece constructed of black granite which stretches out suspended over the beach and glistens at night with the stars of the southern hemisphere reproduced by underwater LED lighting.
There is a restaurant (mainly for breakfast), in room bar and bar lounge. Jose Ignacio is known for its beach bars and restaurants which are all part of the scene and summer lifestyle.

The high rise beach strip of Punte del Este hosts the glitziest parties and the laid back village Jose Ignacio is a bare foot, sandy, understated, village coastal retreat where the world's top international chefs ply their trade at private villas and exclusive beach side restauants.
There are slick beachside independent boutique hotels owned as a hobby by billionnaires and a range of villas to rent.
Out of season is a far more laid back experience on the coast. Exploration is best with your own hire car to discover wonderful restaurants in the rural interior and venture to the Brazilian border passing wild beaches, abandoned colonial fortresses and temperate palm forests.
