Owned by Sir Richard Branson, Necker Island is located in the British Virgin Islands and is quite possibly the ultimate luxury destination. This seventy four acre tropical paradise is totally private, with almost seventy staff to cater for the every whim of its guests.
The island is usually hired exclusively for up to 30 adults and an additional 6 children, where guests have the island, facilities and staff to themselves.
Alternatively, during ‘Celebration Weeks’, couples or singles can book individual rooms. During Celebration Weeks meals are usually taken together at various points around the island.
The beautiful decadent surroundings and relaxed atmosphere created by the staff encourages you to relax and enjoy this very special place, making your stay as indulgent or informal as you wish.
The Great House is located in an elevated position making the most of the spectacular panoramic views of the island and there are also six Bali Houses with island or sea views. The Beach House is the ideal place to party or order a cocktail from the Pool Pavilion’s swim up bar.
The beaches that fringe the island are idyllic with their powdery white sands and turquoise waters. The two most accessible beaches are Main Beach and Turtle beach.
Turtle Beach is more tranquil with its hammocks and comfortable sun loungers. Main Beach is where you will find all the water activities, the Beach Pavilion and the tennis courts.
The turquoise waters of the Caribbean contrast with the soft white sand where sailing, water sports and snorkelling are just some of the amenities on offer.
Wildlife is in abundance at Necker with Lemurs, introduced by Richard after a trip to Madagascar, flamingos, turtles, giant tortoise and a turtle hatching programme.
There are four dining options on Necker Island; dinner at the Great House is a revelation with a variety of themes to make each night unique. Meet at the bar for cocktails and head up to the roof terrace where dinner will be served while you watch the sun set.
On the upper level of the Beach Pavilion is a huge dining table that can seat up to 40 guests at any one time with views overlooking the tennis courts to one side and the ocean to the other.
Turtle Beach is a great option for lunch or dinner - the island usually organise a sailing race around the island which ends at Turtle Beach for a drink and either a picnic or BBQ style lunch. If you fancy an afternoon activity the nearby reef promises some great snorkelling opportunities.
Or for a very unique twist to the traditional sushi bar, sushi is served in a floating kayak filled with ice and decorated with beautiful flowers! The chefs float the kayak down to the Beach Pool and are there to tell you what decadent rolls and sashimi they have prepared.
Looking for a luxurious escape? Why not consider the British Virgin Islands? This pristine destination offers everything you could possibly want in a luxury holiday, from white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters to world-class accommodation and dining. Plus, with its excellent year-round weather, the BVI is the perfect spot to relax and recharge any time of year.
Pain Killers - not the type you take for that headache that just won’t budge - but the local cocktail - this sums up the British Virgin Islands. The heady mix of the smooth, suave, cream of coconut. The sweet and refreshing mix of pineapple and orange juice. A sprinkle of unadulterated nuttiness from the nutmeg. Then finally Pusser's Rum - where two, three or maybe four ounces are added - depending on the desired intensity.
This BVIs comprises 60 islands, islets and cays and can be reached by a short 30 minute air hope from Antigua. From the lush hills and yachtie swooning Virgin Gorda, to the impossibly beautiful ‘unplugged’ island of Anegada, seeming to float like a shell in a crystal seas. And who can resist little Jost Van Dyke, the ‘barefoot island’ where there are fewer than 300 inhabitants? This British Overseas Territory will quite literally knock your socks off.
With steady trade winds, calm currents, protected bays and pirate-ship bars, this is one of the world's sailing hot spots with the best conditions between November - May. Things can get lively around the BVI Spring Regatta so for those seeking peace and quiet the end of March / beginning of April are best avoided.
You don’t need to stay on a boat to enjoy the BVIs. Hidden away are several luxurious hotels accessed by boat, such as Peter Island and Biras Creek. There is also Richard Branson’s Necker Island, normally to be rented as a whole, but also offering some weeks when you can book just a room.
The islands have a quirky edge, and despite all the fancy boats and celebrity visitors, they remain relatively undeveloped.
