Surrounded by 7,000 hectares of private concession, Mkulumadzi is in an idyllic location at the confluence of two rivers shaded by giant leadwood trees. Guests arrive by a footbridge suspended over the Mkulumadzi River.
Mkulumadzi is on the banks of the Shire River just a few kilometres from where it plunges into the Kapichira Falls.
The accommodation consists of eight chalets - three double, two twins, one honeymoon and two family chalets. They all have spacious living quarters, private viewing decks, en-suite bathrooms with double basins and both a shower and a bath, plus tea & coffee making facilities as well as a stocked minibar fridge.
The lodge has indoor and outdoor dining, a terrace and lounge, a bar and shop, swimming pool, viewing deck, a fabulous sleep-out star deck and a lapa for evening campfires.
Activities include game-drives, boating safaris (subject to water levels), bush walks, cultural tours, birding trips on the Shire River and to nearby Elephant Marsh and game-viewing from a hide.
Guests can also use the swimming pool and even sleep under the stars on the star deck. Watch animals come to drink from the hide and visit a nearby village to experience the local culture.
Nestled in the south-western part of Malawi, with its rugged wilderness of hilly woodland and savannah hugging the west bank of the Shire River, comes Majete Wildlife Reserve.
Following heavy poaching in the 1970s and 1980s, Majete is a true underdog, now being one of the most popular reserves in Malawi.
From having most of its species wiped out to becoming Malawi’s only Big Five Park, one can see why visitors become so enamoured with this place. Due to its unique story, the park became a conservation case study, leaving researchers and safari-lovers enchanted by this exciting destination.
Having been managed by African Parks since 2003, more than 2,500 animals have been reintroduced, including not only the Big Five, but sable, waterbuck, impala, zebra and warthog.
Come and support the astonishing efforts taking place here, whilst, of course, enjoying a first-class safari experience.
