Midway along the western shore of Lake Turkana sheltered in the hollow of a spit lies Lobolo, which in the local Turkana language means a place of abundant water.

Indeed it is an area of natural springs whose waters have given rise to a verdant oasis of foliage and distinct animal and bird life.

Adeptly integrated into this milieu are the six en-suite safari-genre tents, with spring water showers, flushing loo's and wash basins, which lie nestled within the extensive palm grove. Each tent has it's unique, remarkable and varied view of the

sandy beach, the lake, Central Island and the distant shoreline.

Explore Lobolo’s forest and spring, spot unique birds, and sight visiting migratory species.

This is the perfect base for exploring the Turkana area where very few westerners visit. The scenery is stunning and the culture is fascinating.

Experience archaeological, geological, educational, and fishing trips. To thoroughly get the most out of the area, you can also explore it by helicopter.

Region

Lake Turkana, also known as the Jade Sea as it is a deep alkaline green colour and is in the Kenyan Rift Valley in northern Kenya, is the world's biggest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake.

Surrounded by gentle beaches, cliffs, deserts and dark outcrops of volcanic rock, Lake Turkana is incredibly desolate and scenic. The area is superb for photography and offers a rare chance to explore an untouched area of the world.

The Lake is the only permanent source of water in the area and the Gabbra and Merille tribes in the area are utterly reliant upon the lake and the camels with which they live. This is one of the few areas left in the world where one may visit a true practising desert tribe, unaffected by the 21st century.

Sparsely populated and unexplored, Turkana attracts only the hardiest of travellers, but for those who can tolerate the oppressive heat and vast distances the rewards are well worthwhile.
