Javri Lodge is the one-time winter residence of Finland's former President Urho Kekkonen. Surrounded by national parks, fells, vast forests and lakes, this place has a mystery that makes it easy to see why the President fell in love with it so easily. Having undergone huge renovation in 2017, the lodge now boasts strong ecological credentials as well as offering guests the ultimate luxury winter experience.

Outside, the lodge is proud to offer guests a number of typically Scandanavian activities such as a husky and reindeer safari, snowmobiling, skiing, icefishing, cultural immersion with the Sami people, foraging, hiking, canoeing, gold panning and, although not for the faint hearted, ice swimming.

As well as this, the lodge's location, 250 km inside the Arctic Circle, means that the world famous aurora borealis are frequently visible from the comfort of the Javri Lodge.

Anyone looking for even bigger thrills can enjoy winter driving on a test track and winter rally driving, an ice-fishing trip to a wilderness lake by ski plane or even take a helicopter trip to the Arctic Ocean for King Crab fishing!

This is a lodge that is perfect to be taken privately by a family or group of friends for a very different place to celebrate a special occasion. If taking exclusively, children are most welcome but on a per room basis as this is an adult only haven.

There is no need to worry about clothing either as the lodge has the most fantastically well-equipped store room with everything you need to keep you warm on the outside and all the necessary equipment for excursions. Guests only need think about thermal layers for underneath.

Visitors are welcomed in from the cold, after a day of Arctic exploration, by the lodge's warm and homely feel with open fireplaces and large, light lounge spaces. Javri fuses luxury and adventure perfectly.

The 13 luxury rooms (all with en-suites bathrooms) offer residents a very comfortable place to sleep including 6 ground floor cozy doubles; 3 ground floor Presidential Suites with original log walls; 4 first floor SkyView Suites with floor to ceiling window walls. The rest of the lodge is every bit as inviting. During down time massage can be arranged in the treatment room or in the comfort of your bedroom.

The restaurant's menu provides exceptional fine dining, with as much as possible sourced locally meaning the freshest organic cuisine is the order of the day with perfectly paired wine to match.

In summary, this unique property offers visitors a uncompromised and real taste of Scandanavia. Javri's inside swimming pool, sauna and massage room exemplify its mission to allow visitors to admire the natural wonders of Finland whilst immersed in luxury and comfort.

Region

With Santa Claus calling Finland home, this snowy destination is predictably famed for its Christmas hospitality. However, this stunningly scenic area is not just for Christmas and is open for exploration throughout the year. With the Northern Lights on show for 200 nights of the year and 188,000 lakes to discover, adventurers can never get bored of Europe's seventh-largest country.

Visitors are invited to look around as well as up when travelling to this amazing country as it plays home to brown bears, wolves, elk, moose and reindeer. For an all encompassing Arctic experience, travellers would do well to beat Finland as a destination.

Local Area

At 250 km inside the Arctic Circle and just 30 km from the Russian border, Saariselka is Finland's most northerly ski resort. Javri Lodge is on the outskirts of the resort and offers guests a secluded Scandinavian experience.

With one of the country's largest national parks on the lodge's doorstep the sky is the limit when it comes to available outdoor activities. Visitors are encouraged to view the local wildlife (which includes reindeer, wolves and falcons) by cross-country skiing across the many trails woven throughout the park.

Finland's Arctic location means that the country experiences very cold winters with minimal daylight hours and then warm summers with up to 20 hours of daylight.
The Northern lights can be seen most of the year, with the exception of June and July, so the best time to go depends on whether you want snow or sun. However, prospective travellers should be warned that Finland can get quite busy during the Christmas period.
