This delightful, family-owned, iconic hotel sits pretty on the shores of Lake Como and all her glory. The Grand Facade of this stunning palazzo is in itself a sight to behold but this is certainly not a case of style over substance, the substance is most definitely delivered.
With just 90 rooms including 15 glorious suites and all the facilities one could dream of, there is little reason to leave this heavenly hotel. Five restaurants ranging from fine dining at La Terrazza to wood-fired pizza at T-Pizza ensure guests are utterly spoilt for choice. Breakfasts are certainly a joy, served on the terrace with a vast choice of delights, this is a brilliant start to the day.
However should you wish to venture out, staff can arrange vespa hire, sailing and diving or simply head out on either one of the hotel's Venetian 'water limousines', take a private charter of a motorboat or live like a local and take the Batello, the public ferry. If you are feeling like taking to the skies for an adventure there is even a seaplane for a scenic tour over the lake and even beyond.
Back in the hotel, the Park Gardens are an escape from any sense of busy tourism of the region, which in the height of summer can get rather intense.
The gardens are the setting for one of the hotel's three swimming pools, beautifully named the 'Flowers Pool'. The second is no less than a floating pool on Lake Como itself, achingly stylish in design and impossible not to photograph. Just next to the floating pool is the T-Beach complete with real sand and sunloungers creating the feeling of a true lido.
The third pool, a heated indoor infinity pool with five hydro-massage areas and an attached outdoor whirlpool tub, is found inside the impressive spa, which is housed in the 18th-century Villa Emilia. Exclusively designed by ESPA and using products that are grown in the hotel's organic garden, spa lovers will want for nothing here.
A special offering is the Spa Suite for two with its own whirlpool tub, sauna and steam room as well as a sauna that looks out over the water. Sheer bliss.
Although this hotel lends itself to couples, for the incurably romantic setting, children are also very welcome here and staff will delight in making sure little (as well as big) people are contented.
One of Italy's largest regions stretching from the Alps to Lake Como, Lombardy is situated in the very north of the country, sharing its border with Switzerland. It's positioning at the base of the Alps ensured the city was appealing to many historic tribes, changing hands from the Etruscans, to the Celts, to the Romans and eventually the Lombards until 1859 when Lombardy unified within the Kingdom of Italy.
The region is now one of the richest and most developed regions in Italy, and despite its strong industrial manufacturing roots, Lombardy has quickly been recognised for its culture and beauty, as well as being home to Milan, a fashion and shopping capital of the world.
With such a diverse landscape ranging from the beautiful Alps Mountains to the pretty lakes of Garda, Maggiore and Como, Lombardy boasts a multitude of experiences to be had. Whether it be hiking or mountain biking through the hills, windsurfing on Lake Como, catching a glimpse of the iconic "Last Supper" painting by Leonardo da Vinci, skiing, or relaxing in the peace and tranquillity that is Northern Italy, Lombardy is not to be missed.
The village of Tremezzo on the western shore of Lake Como, is home to a population of approximately 1,300 residents and is part of the 'Tremezzina' commune comprising Tremezzo, Lenno and Mezzegra. In the area there are several wonderful, grand historical villas to visit; as well as churches, abbeys, hamlets and islands. On foot, enjoy gentle strolls around the lake or more strenuous hikes up into the hills, should you wish, accompanied by a guide.
Milan, Lugano, the other lakes and St Moritz are also all within reach for day excursions. Locally, during the summer months, various shows, events and festivals take place in the region so there is certainly no shortage of ways to keep busy during your stay if you can drag yourself away from the spectacular lake views from your sunlounger. However, the best way of enjoying the Italian lakes is by being on the water, either on a boat or by enjoying some of the watersports on offer.
