The exclusive Emily Moon River Lodge is situated just outside Plettenberg Bay, nestled amongst Milkwood Trees on the banks of the Bitou River.

8 of the 10 luxury lodges enjoy peaceful river and wetland views and all have wooden decks and large fireplaces. Spacious and private, the suites are contemporary in design and tastefully appointed.

Winding through lush indigenous vegetation, the walkways connect each lodge to the central areas.

Breakfast is served on the elevated deck, its stunning views a balm to the soul.

Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in the main restaurant / dining hall, with its backdrop of distant mountains, but in the off-season (March to November) lunch is only offered on a Sunday.

A boutique estate wine list complements the meals.

During the heat of the day, cool off in the swimming pools, or take a paddle on the river, and as night falls, socialise around a log fire, sundowner in hand.

Region

Not a garden in the true sense of the word, the Garden Route is an area of natural wilderness with endless expanses of untamed forest and pristine beaches. Imposing mountains line the roads and waterfalls cascade into blue-green seas from dramatic cliffs.

Perched on the edge of a lagoon, the town of Knysna was established in the gold rush of 1804 and is a hub of local arts and crafts. Vibrant and bohemian, Knysna is surrounded by indigenous forests which are inhabited by the Knysna Turaco, the endangered Dwarf Chameleon, the Brenton Blue Butterfly and the illusive Forest Elephant. The smallest antelope, the blue duiker, and South Africa’s national bird, the Blue Crane can also be viewed here. Waterfront restaurants and exciting activities keep visitors endlessly entertained - perhaps go for a paddle-boat cruise and dinner.

The Robberg Nature Reserve, just outside of the seaside resort of Plettenberg Bay, and the Garden Route National Park (encompassing Tsitsikamma and Wilderness National Parks) are ideal for birding, hiking and biking. Perhaps visit Monkeyland and the Elephant Sanctuary while in the region, and adrenaline junkies shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to attack the highest bridge jump from Bungi Bridge.
