Domaine de Murtoli is an exclusive and expansive estate set over 2,500 hectares of heavenly verdant countryside in the southwest of Corsica. The estate is the perfect combination of rustic charm delivered with grace and panache.
The accommodation ranges from cottages for two people to the largest house which can sleep 16. The houses are all extremely private and accessible via rough dirt tracks and therefore a 4x4 style vehicle hire from the airport is absolutely essential.
Each sympathetically restored shepherd's hut or sheepfold, dating from the 17th Century, has thick stone walls keeping the houses cool in the height of summer and all are extremely comfortable.
All properties also benefit from air-conditioning should the need arise and all have a summer kitchen so no one needs to be stuck in the kitchen on a balmy summer's evening! Most of the houses have a swimming pool, all heated during the season, some enjoy a hammam and one even has a sauna too.
The houses are located either near the beach and sea or in the rolling hills of the 'maquis'. The villas and cottages are fully serviced as per a hotel with daily maid service and a concierge on hand to arrange any activities for you but it is worth noting that to get anywhere from your accommodation you will most likely need to drive.
For restaurant service choose between The Farm Bar and Table, The Beach Bar and Table and The Grotto Bar and Table, the latter being a magical and romantic setting for an evening meal.
During the high season a Michelin starred chef takes over in The Farm Table Restaurant. as per the name implies, the estate grows its own produce on an organic farm.
The houses are fully equipped for preparing your own meals and there is a daily market in the nearest town Sartene and you can enjoy the harvest from the estate dependent on the season. Outside of peak season, a chef can come to your house for a special occasion celebration. Fresh pastries can also be delivered in the morning, included already, and at extra cost a full breakfast basket can de arranged as well as groceries.
The beaches here are truly unspoilt and considered to amongst the best beaches in the world with white sands and turquoise blue, crystal-clear waters. Activities available for guests include horse riding, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, boat excursions and golf.
An outdoor beach spa is an ideal spot for a relaxing treatment and out of high season a lovely room in the Farm building is setting for massage and beauty treatments.
Hidden away from the rest of the world, here you will be immersed in nature in an untouched paradise.
Don't come here if you are looking for glitz and glam or a formal atmosphere! Do come here if you love the idea of rustic elegance and splendid isolation.
For the French, Corsica is the Ile de Beauté and it’s very easy to see why. The island exudes an almost magical beauty with its high mountain scenery of towering peaks and cascading slopes dominating and defining the centre of the island and the whole covered in green chestnut trees and pine forests.
On the coastline, the mountains appear to fall dramatically into the sparkling sea that washes the near 1000 kilometres of rugged azurean coastline. The crysal clear, aquamarine blue waters and often near empty beaches are amongst the cleanest in Europe.
There is so much to do on this idyllic island from hiking and diving to horse riding and exploring the quaint streets of clifftop towns. Couple this together with delicious local cuisine a culmination of the very best of French and Italian rolled into one, the superb Mediterranean climate and a very cosmopolitan crowd who either live there or like to frequent the island and voila, there are all the ingredients for a very special place to visit.
