Located in the south-western region of the Okavango Delta, in a 25,000 hectare exclusive wildlife concession on the edge of the permanent Delta, is the handsome &Beyond Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge. Sprawled along the banks of a lagoon and guarded by a family of hippo, Xudum is surrounded by a mosaic of papyrus and reed beds offering panoramic delta views.

Nine split-level safari suites boast rich natural tones, the rough-hewn timber exuding an earthy glamour and understated elegance. Romantic outdoor showers, private plunge pools and a rooftop sleep-out ensure guests can make the most of the tranquil surrounds.

Layered guest areas are tucked within the tree line, intimate spaces and comfortable seating extend out to decks and magnificent sweeping views.

Activities include game drives and bush walks (subject to the availability of a walking guide) as well as bird watching, motor boats and mokoro excursions, (water-level dependent).

A range of optional activities includes scenic flights, rock art excursions, village tours by air and horseback safaris.

Region

This stunning and unique wetland area is formed by the Okavango River flowing into the Kalahari Desert. It creates the distinctive oasis known as the Okavango Delta.

Comprising of thousands of tiny islands, some solely made of small salt planes too salty to support plants, around 70% of the islands were originally termite mounds, however they now serve as land for wildlife.

Being a rarity in that it is one of the only sources of water available for animals and wildlife in day light hours means that it attracts thousands of animals. This creates a particularly special opportunity for observing many different animals, birdlife and fish.

The Okavango Delta can be explored in some rather exciting ways - on foot, in a game drive vehicle or in a Mokoro to delve into life in the floodwaters. However you decide to experience this wondrous oasis, it really is sure to be the trip of a lifetime.

If you don't want scorching temperatures, and would prefer a getaway with no rain, the best months to visit the Okavango Delta are the months of June through to September. Daily temperatures average of around 17 degrees centigrade in these months, and the rainfall is scarce.
If you'd prefer to bask in the heat and don't mind a moderate amount of rainfall, October to March produce the hottest daytime temperatures, although you will probably encounter a thunderstorm and some rain, although these don't last particularly long and can add to the authenticity and experience of your visit. December, January and February are the wettest months, so be sure to pack accordingly to your preferred dates!
