&Beyond Benguerra Lodge is located on the protected north-west side of Benguerra Island, just offshore from the mainland. Surrounded by sandy beaches, turquoise waters and lush inland forests, the property has the distinctive feel of a tropical beach island.
10 casinhas and two cabanas provide comfortable accommodation: tropical chic blended with the region’s African and Portuguese heritage. The lodge’s bathrooms are all open plan. Light and airy, each room enjoys views over the exquisite setting. A three-bedroom Casa Familia is ideal for families and sleeps a maximum of four adults & four children. It has two inter-leading suites, a
small sitting room and a third suite, in addition to a private pool and large wooden deck.
Spend evenings relaxing at the Dhow Bar on the beach, its seaside ambiance enhanced by salty breezes. Lantern lit dinners may be enjoyed al fresco, the ocean sounds a harmonious background refrain.
Pass days lazing beside the pool, wandering through forests, horse-riding or taking advantage of a range of optional excursions. Diving and fishing are available and the waters are inhabited by an array of marine life, turtles, whales and dolphins.
The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of six islands in Mozambique, near the mainland city of Vilankulo. The islands became a national park in 1971, and is an important area of conservation due to the wide range of marine life.
For this reason, it is hard to beat the diving in Bazaruto – reef fish, sea turtles and devil rays are regularly seen swimming in the crystal clear turquoise waters. Various endangered species such as the whale shark, humpback whale and the dugong may also be spotted.
The islands themselves are untouched and idyllic, with elegant palm trees giving way to lush vegetation, where you might see a Samango monkey swinging through the trees.
To see the islands in all their glory, take advantage of the various tours on offer, such as horseback riding tours, or sail around to find the perfect snorkelling spot on a Dhow cruise and experience nature on a more intimate level.
