The Alvear Palace epitomises traditional old style service and luxury. The Grand Dame of Buenos Aires, the Alvear opened in 1932 and was the first true luxury hotel in the city attracting the new international business elite, diplomats and socialites.

The 197 rooms and suites are sumptiously furnished with deep carpets, golden drapes, crystal chandeliers and accents of Louis XVI bedroom furniture. Classic but impeccably kept and maintained by the army of charming staff that has kept the Alvear's reputation untarnished for almost a century.

The Alvear is almost the beating heart of Recoleta. Not only welcoming international guests but a firm

favourite for afternoon tea and dinner hosting the great and good of Buenos Aires.

La Bourgogne offers an enticing French menu combined with local seasonal fare, French and Argentine wines.

However traditional the Alvear may be in design and service the spa, pool and gym have been relocated to the redeveloped top floors which are contemporary in nature with truly spectacular views across the city skyline.

The new upper floors are perfect for those looking for a less fussy and less opulent experience without compromising on the signature Alvear service.

Region

The most populous and cosmopolitan city in Argentina - Buenos Aires!

The streets of Buenos Aires are an astounding mix of grandeur with alluring Latin influences and a large dose of vibrancy.

The architecture of the 1908 opera house, the Obelisco de Buenos Aires and 19th-century buildings such as Casa Rosada, the iconic, balconied presidential palace, all radiate charm and offer visitors an insight into Argentina's rich history, ensuring the city maintains a certain seductive essence about it.

The Latin influences in Argentina are strong yet not overwhelming, showcasing themselves in both old and new music and the arts. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes is perfect for witnessing significant artwork from European masters, ranging from pre-Renaissance days to the here and now. Art is not just confined to the galleries in Buenos Aires - the streets are used as a canvas for many talented and inspiring street artists whose murals proudly enhance the vibrancy and colour of the city.

Whilst the many theatres can allow you to experience the sensation that is Tango by watching the world famous dance, you can also try yourself at a Milonga. Milonga's are dance salons which are dotted throughout the city and allow you to watch and learn amongst beginners and the more advanced, or show off your moves with your own partner.

Buenos Aires is a city full of life and culture, and has a somewhat confidence amongst its stark contrast of old and new - and proudly so.

Buenos Aires is a bustling metropolis and is wonderfully pleasant for exploring in comfortable temperatures during the Austral Spring (late September-October) and Autumn (March-April).

High Summer (November-February) can see soaring temperatures, hot sunny days and humidity interspersed by thundery showers. Mornings before lunch are perfect times to explore followed by a siesta and balmy evening cocktails.

The Winter months from May - August are cool and pleasant but can seem dull with weaker light.
