Rajasthan, meaning Land of Kings or King’s Abode, is undoubtedly the most visited state in India by foreign visitors and with very good reason. The vibrant state is home to the famous historical cities of Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur as well as the national park of Ranthambhore with its healthy tiger population.
In between the cities lies an arid landscape, dotted with villages, ancient forts and temples and exploring the countryside and engaging with the people who live there is highly recommended as an immersive and authentic experience. The Aravalli Range also runs through the state and provides a stunning back drop to places such as Udaipur, where a glorious and picturesque lake also sets the scene.
Throughout the land, signs of the state’s majestic cultural heritage of the realm of the maharajas is evident and therefore stays in lavish palaces and forts that have been made into hotels can make a holiday in Rajasthan somewhat fantastical, transporting those who go into a world akin to royalty!
Alila Fort is situated in the small village of Bishangarh, yet just 6km from the Delhi-Jaipur highway and about 3 hours away from Delhi.
Bishangarh is a traditional Rajasthani village with temples, farms, artisans including jewellers, carpet weavers and potters. This is truly a place where one can experience local life.
Further afield there are many places to visit in the surrounding countryside and of course in Jaipur itself, which can easily be visited for the day.
