São Tomé can be visited at any time throughout the year as the climate is warm with a temperate climate. There is always some rain mixed with sunshine and the rainy season is between October and November and from April to May. December and January are best for birding as the birds adopt their wonderfully bright breeding plumage. The long dry season is best for trekking and from November to February turtles nest on the beaches. In addition to these land based attractions, humpback whales, killer whales and dolphins can be seen off the northeast coast from August to October.
